CONFLICTING PARTNER THERAPY
There are times when routine Pre-marital counseling is not enough to deal with potentially damaging issues in a relationship that is heading toward matrimony. This counseling is a form of pre-marital counseling in that couples or individuals (either or both may attend and it is usually recommended that both come) need extra help. This is usually due to some thing, someone or some circumstance that is wreaking havoc in the relationship. For couples who are planning a wedding AND YET one or both see a definite problem brewing or that has not been worked out together satisfactorly, this is a way to get things resolved. For some, this can lead to a much happier life together and for others, a much happier life apart. Again, this is not standard counseling - if you are experiencing or suspecting drug of alcohol abuse, domestic violence to yourself or your (or the other person's) children, uncontrollable mismanagement of family or personal money / joint funds, unacceptable infidelity, a shady or unknown past of a mate, potential criminal involvement, etc., you need to address this (these) issue(s) with your partner - if you can not do it alone, we can do it with you.
NOTE: If you believe that you, a member of your family or any other person may be harmed or in danger of being harmed, contact your local police or sheriff's department right away for their assistance - do not wait for a session with us or anyone else to talk about this! If you are in immediate danger, seek refuge from a friend or neighbor you can trust and call the authorities.
NOTE: If you are aware or suspect illegal activity of any kind, know of a crime that was committed or one that is about to be committed, then do not call us - instead, immediately contact your local police or sheriff's department for assistance.
A call to "911" might be the smartest thing you ever do to
protect yourself or someone else- so be safe.
MARITAL COUNSELING
In the past, marital counseling had been widely considered to be the sort of thing that couples went to when the marriage was "on the rocks". While it is true that even today many couples do not seek the assistance of a marriage counselor until the "kettle is boiling over" and steps are already being taken toward an eventual divorce, the norm is changing in a new and positive direction. Many couples recognize the high value placed on mentors, coaches, consultants and counsel for a great many aspects of their lives. One needs only to stop and look at a great multitude of activities and tasks in life when there is someone there to lend a hand, offer encouragement and give that much needed guidance to see that this point is true. From learning to drive a car, to becoming a master mechanic to learning the finer details for becoming one of the world's top athletes and the list goes on and on.
Who is it who taught you to be a good wife or husband - a parent, a movie, a high school class OR nobody at all? Have you figured that you'd just "wing it" and let love make all things go right? There is no shame in answering "yes" to any of the above. Unfortunately, there is a real lacking of guidance and teaching of "the making of a satisfying marriage". The celebrities of today are not plastered all over the screens talking about how to have a great marriage - in fact, the rating system probably already tried these sort of shows and found that they are not very good producers of revenue like they were back in the times of Ozzy and Harriet Nelson. Those celebrities who are experiencing satisfying marriages are in the background enjoying their marriage while probably shaking their heads in disgust when they see these "girls gone wild" or whose divorcing whom stories. There is a solution for those looking to create a strong foundation in marriage - regardless of how long they have been thus far married - that being marital counseling.
